Been looking at this solution as well as I need something similar 
What it actually does it add another resource type to the "Type" drop down of the upload screen with Normal Document that has the properties links hidden but the user can still select the standard Normal Document from that list and see the properties link again. Any idea if it is possible to get rid of the standard Normal Document from the list?
